Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 5 Videos. This is a segment where we will be looking at some exceptional visuals from various acts from around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades and through the 90s and 2000s, it has really taken flight from multi-million budget music videos, to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but rather highlight some of the creative visuals that pop up on our radar.

 

 

 

Big Boss Vette – “Heavy”

Big Boss Vette holds nothing back in her new single  “Heavy.” The track is an upbeat piano-driven track that sees her in full bravado mode as she lets listeners and naysayers know that she is not backing down. The visual is a mix of smooth cut scenes and performance shots that capture her energetic and confident style.

M-Dot – “Blood, Sweat & Tears” (Prod. By L.O.B) Cuts By DJ Decepta

M-Dot tears it up in the lyric dense record titled “Blood, Sweat & Tears“.  Bolstered by the gritty backdrop produced By L.O.B and excellent Cuts By DJ Decepta, M-Dot drops back to back face slapping bars reminding us of his prowess behind the pen.

The self-directed visual finds M-Dot cleverly navigating his way against various fictional battle rappers in this comical wrestling style ensemble.  It also includes a handful of extremely hilarious “The Office” style interviews spliced throughout.

Raz Hardy & The Mich Kidd – “Execute” (ft. Dizze Chill)

Raz Hardy & The Mich Kidd team up with Dizze Chill for this smooth boom-bap banger titled “Execute.” Over a soulful texture and punchy drums, the trio delivers solid performances ripe with insightful gems that anyone can relate to. The visual is shot in all black and white aesthetic and makes use of several performance shots of the artists. It’s quite solid and gets the job done.

 

 

 

Indica Wave – “Infrared Beamin’”

Queens, NY emcee Indica Wave drops the visuals for her single  “Infrared Beamin’.” A chilled and punchy backdrop that sees her in her element. She delivers a mellow low pitched vocal performance as she exorcises all the negative energies that might detract her from her goals. The visual is shot by Indica Wave and Tiffany Galicia and it’s a homage to the essence of hip-hop in terms of style and aesthetics. It’s quite engaging with its cinematic texture and smooth-cut scenes.

 

Dot Demo – “David Ortiz Freestyle”

South Bronx emcee Dot Demo closes out this week’s edition with “David Ortiz Freestyle,” a cinematic lyric-driven track that showcases his off-kilter rap style. Backed by a smooth backdrop provided by his longtime collaborator RUNITUPDAY, Dot demo comes through in the clutch and delivers the goods. The visual is shot by OMERTÀ in South Bronx and makes use of performance shots of Dot demo with cinematic cut scenes of the surroundings as well.
