From the jump, the video is very dark and brooding, with everything being like, black or dark red. The video helpfully tells us they’re in Miami, and Taylor is hanging out on a big-ass boat wearing some kind of zip-up crop top and black hammer pants. It’s…a look. Taylor does some rudimentary dance moves that she just learned (and that she should stop trying to learn), and she also sips a cocktail while smirking, as if it’s some big secret that she’s tasted alcohol.
Taylor and Future seem to get along great, and during his verse they’re driving around in a Lamborghini or something like that. We’re pretty sure they don’t actually have anything in common, but Future knows he came here to get a check and we respect that.
After seeing Taylor walk on the beach barefoot a bit, we fly across the world to Tokyo. Apparently they couldn’t get Ed and Future on the same continent, so here we are. Ed and Taylor are hanging out at some bar, where she’s wearing a gingham dress that is also a choice. Or is it an oversize flannel? We love that Taylor is keeping us on our toes. This is followed by a deleted scene from where she rides a motorcycle.
Ooh, now we’re in London! Taylor, slow down, I’m getting whiplash from all this travel! London is all about sparkly outfits, and she wears a rainbow striped one and a yellow-green one. Both are subtle looks that could easily transition from day to night, no problem. They show Taylor dancing on a public bus and eating a burrito, both of which look so unnatural for her. Like, Taylor Swift is not a burrito girl, we just know it.
The video ends with her alone on that bridge in London that gets fucked up in one of the movies, and that seems fitting. Taylor loves living in a fantasy world, so she’s basically the Harry Potter of pop music.
This video is definitely not as confusing as some of her previous offerings, but we definitely miss the cyborg version of her from the “…Ready For It?” vid. Oh well, maybe she’ll come back next time.
