Selena Quintanilla’s Google Doodle is the most adorable thing on the web today

On the 28th anniversary of her first studio album, Selena Quintanilla is bridging together lifetime adorers and new fans with her very own Google Doodle.

Set to the tune of “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” a fan favorite that won the Tejano Music Award for Best 1990s Song, the Doodle takes audiences through Quintanilla’s journey from frontwoman of her family band Selena y Los Dinos, to her iconic position as Queen of Tejano music.

In the Doodle, Quintanilla sings throughout her house into a hairbrush, accosting her brother A.B. and sister Suzette before their father Abraham funnels her talent into a family band. The siblings play across local events, eventually turning into the powerhouse act with the help of Selena’s husband and Dinos guitarist Chris Pérez.

The Doodle also pays homage to white roses, reportedly Quintanilla’s favorite flower, Big Bertha, the band’s touring van, and Quintanilla’s ability to converge her identities as a Mexican-American to create one unified cultural experience for her fans.

“…Selena taught me that being Latina was a powerful thing, and that with hard work and focus I could do whatever I set my mind to. Watching her showed me that this hybrid cultural identity of mine was a valuable gift I should embrace. Watching her made me proud of being Mexicana,” Perla Campos, Google Doodles’ Global Marketing Lead, wrote in a press release. “She continues to show Latinx, immigrants, and bicultural communities around the world to be proud of who they are and to embrace their differences.”
