Female actresses aren’t the only ones to be body shamed in the industry.
Sam Claflin made sure to address that fact during a recent interview with The Sydney Morning Herald. Although the British actor put his deliciously sculpted abs on display for the Hunger Games franchise and in Me Before You, he’s actually pretty “insecure” about his body after being treated like a “piece of meat” on film sets.

“I remember doing one job when they literally made me pull my shirt up and were grabbing my fat and going you need to lose a bit of weight.’ This other time they were slapping me. I felt like a piece of meat.”
How awful! In fact, Sam even relates to the many female starlets who’ve opened up about being objectified while on the job. The Hollywood hunk noted:
“I read in an interview recently and I think it’s absolutely true: men have it just as bad. Well, not just as bad but they get it bad and it’s never talked about.”
Well, umm, maybe not “just as bad.” Thankfully, Claflin backtracked a bit, as he clarified:
“I’m not saying it’s anywhere near as bad as what women go through but I, as an actor approaching each job, am insecure especially when I have to take my top off in it and so nervous. I get really worked up to the point where I spend hours and hours in the gym and not eating for weeks to achieve what I think they’re going for.”
That can’t be fun. As for the root of the problem, the striking celeb says performers are simply held to a different standard these days. He continued:
“In the ’50s and ’60s, it was never an issue. James Bond never had a six pack. He had a hairy chest. Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire had an incredible body but he was by no means ripped to within an inch of his life. There’s a filter on society that this is normal, but actually it’s anything but normal.”
Fair point. This isn’t the first time Sam’s called out the industry for their unrealistic body expectations. In case you forgot, back in 2016, the father-of-one spoke out when someone photoshopped his face onto the body of male model and fans thought it was actually him. Smh.
In short: there is a serious body positivity problem in Hollywood. Who do we call to rectify this??
