Parents Who Beat Their Daughter To Death Are Now Expecting Another Kid

We have no words

A veteran of the Iraq war who confessed to beating a 5-year-old girl to death is expecting another child with the girl’s mother.

On Monday, Phillip Gleason was sentenced to 38 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter and child neglect in the killing of Soren Chilson, who died in March 2013 after weeks of severe beatings — including a fatal blow that crushed her skull.

According to Chris Wellborn, Gleason’s lawyer, the South Carolina-based vet pleaded guilty to the charges.

April Victoria Gleason, Soren’s mother, was sentenced to 18 years for not stopping the abuse and even attempting to cover it up.

On the night of her daughter’s death, Gleason told police that the child had a seizure and was coughing up blood. But emergency responders noticed that Soren had bruises all over her body, The Charlotte Observer reports.

The little girl died as a result of bleeding to her brain. Jason Catoe, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office detective, said Soren’s injuries were “one of the most brutal things I have ever seen.”

Prosecutors presented text messages between Phillip and April during the trial from 2012 and 2013 showing the couple had joked about the abuse, with the mother threatening to commit “Soren-cide” following her daughter’s behavioral problems.

What’s worse is that Gleason even sent photos and videos of the injured girl screaming, writing:

“She will suffer my rules.”

Gleason’s defense argued he suffered a traumatic brain injury and PTSD from his time in Iraq — but Sixth Circuit legal practitioner Randy Newman said that claim was “a slap in the face to every veteran,” and described the despicable act as a “month-long killing.”

One first responder shed tears during the sentencing as he described the little girl’s injuries, saying:

“Soren endured a living hell. I held her hand as she passed away.”

Though she pleaded guilty to the charges in court, April begged for probation; saying she was “not a monster” and called Soren the “joy” of her life.

It’s confirmed the couple is expecting another child; so the sentencing of these disturbed, mentally unstable parents is something of a blessing.
