Meryl Streep dressed up, performed as Donald Trump

(CNN)Academy award-winning actress Meryl Streep raised the bar for Donald Trump impersonators everywhere on Monday night when she dressed up — sporting orange makeup, a wig and an overstuffed suit — and performed as the billionaire businessman at a New York theater gala.

Streep was there along with “Mamma Mia!” and “Into the Woods” co-star Christine Baranski — herself dressed as Hillary Clinton — acting out a musical faux-debate at the annual Shakespeare in the Park Public Theater Gala in Central Park, according to a report from Entertainment Weekly.

Unrecognizable in her costume, Streep’s Trump traded Shakespearean jabs with Baranski’s Clinton, captured on video and shared on Twitter by reporters and attendees:
“You’ll let me know why it is all the women say no,” sang Streep. Baranski replied, “Just declaim a few lines from Othello, and they’ll think you’re a hell of a fellow.”
Streep’s ribbing of Trump isn’t her first foray into politics. The performer is an outspoken advocate for gender equality, having written a letter to Congress in 2015 urging them to pass an equal rights amendment guaranteeing certain legal protections against gender discrimination.
The actress also delivered a tribute to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton at the Women in the World summit in 2012, saying, “If you want a real world leader, and you’re really, really lucky, this is what you get.” Clinton, for her part, has said she would want Streep to play her in a movie about her life.
