Madonna once had her one Pepsi ad pulled, and now she’s weighing in

Madonna continues to adorn herself in the finest of shade, and the latest subject of her scorn is Pepsi. The pop icon recently took to Instagram to discuss theKendall Jenner adthat’s been the subject of much internet fury.

When you wake up and realize that Shit just really doesn’t make sense,” wrote the singer. Side note: My Pepsi commercial was pulled 30 years ago because I was kissing a black saint! #ironic.

After signing a deal with Pepsi in 1989, she debuted Like A Prayer in a commercial. The controversial music video featured religious ecstasies and Catholic symbols, like burning crosses and stigmata, and of course her kissing a black saint (played by Leon, from films like Above The Rim).

Pepsi pulled the ad after getting public pressure from religious groups.Then, Madonna posteda picture of herself wearing a Coke-red kimono-style dress (which might chafe some fans) and holding a Coke can.

While Pepsi killed Madonna’s ad over religious backlash, Jenner’s ad was taken off the air afterwidespread criticismthat the sugary beverage company appropriated and whitewashed the very real and pain-driven protests of people experiencing inequality in America.
