In a world filled with communications experts and professional political strategists, Donald Trump just doesn’t make sense.
Liz Mair, a Republican consultant who has worked for Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and now former New Mexico governor and libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson, made it clear Wednesday that while she may understand Trump, she still doesn’t quite get him.
“His message is being a loud-mouthed dick, basically, and going out there and offending people and then engaging in a bunch of airing of grievances,” she said on CNN. “That’s what he does. He doesn’t have another message. He doesn’t have anything else that he really wants to convey.”
Asked to weigh in on reports that GOP officials were trying to rein in Trump after a week of unforced errors that have him diving in the polls, Mair said such efforts were hopeless.
“It’s amazing to me that anybody’s still having a discussion about having some sort of an intervention or bringing him back on message,” she said. “The Republican Party has a message, but it’s not his message and he has no interest in carrying it.”
Be that as it may, Trump dismantled Mair’s former clients in the GOP presidential primary and is currently outpacing Johnson in general election polling.
That must be frustrating. But at least Mair doesn’t seem concerned about dropping a D on CNN.
Mair’s uncensored description of Trump came just days after CNN’s Fareed Zakaria called out the real estate mogul as a “bullshit artist” during a live broadcast.
When you’re right, you’re right.
