A special tribute to the late Sir Terry Wogan will form part of this year’s BBC Children in Need.

Friday’s show will be the first since regular presenter Sir Terry died in January.

This year’s live fundraiser will include contributions from Eddie Redmayne and Ricky Gervais, as well as special editions of Strictly and EastEnders and a preview of the Doctor Who Christmas episode.

It starts at 19:30 on BBC One.

Tess Daly and Greg James will open the show, with Graham Norton and Ade Adepitan presenting the central part of the night and Marvin and Rochelle Humes closing the show and revealing the final total.

Daly, who co-presented with Sir Terry for several years, said everyone would feel his absence keenly on the night.

“I know that we will all miss looking at his lovely face with that ever-present cheeky glint in his eye, him constantly cracking jokes, never taking proceedings too seriously,” she said.

The winner of the first Sir Terry Wogan Fundraiser of the Year Award – launched last month – will be announced on the night.

Redmayne will feature in a special sketch recorded on the set of his new film Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

Gervais will perform the title track from the film David Brent: Life on the Road which was released earlier this year.

Olympic stars Helen Glover, Hollie Webb, Joe Clarke and Lutalo Muhammad from Team GB will take part in a Strictly Come Dancing special alongside professional dancers Janette Manrara, Pasha Kovalev, Karen Clifton and Neil Jones.

The EastEnders cast is back with “an extravaganza” featuring Danny Dyer in a Top Gun spoof, while Rob Brydon hosts a junior edition of Would I Lie To You?

More than 1,500 children across 10 different UK locations will be coming together to sing live during the show.
