Amber Heard’s Ex Says Actress Was Wrongfully Accused Of Domestic Violence

Amber Heard’s former girlfriend Tasya van Ree is speaking out after it was reported that the 30-year-old actress was arrested for domestic violence in 2009.

In a statement to The Huffington Post, courtesy of Heard’s rep, van Ree writes that Heard was “wrongfully accused” over an incident which was “misinterpreted and over-sensationalized by two individuals in a power position.”

“In 2009, Amber was wrongfully accused for an incident that was misinterpreted and over-sensationalized by two individuals in a power position. I recount hints of misogynistic attitudes toward us which later appeared to be homophobic when they found out we were domestic partners and not just “friends.” Charges were quickly dropped and she was released moments later. It’s disheartening that Amber’s integrity and story are being questioned yet again. Amber is a brilliant, honest and beautiful woman and I have the utmost respect for her. We shared 5 wonderful years together and remain close to this day.”

Heard’s 2009 arrest surfaced amid divorce proceedings with her estranged husband, Johnny Depp, whom she accused of domestic violence late last month.

According to court documents, Heard says that Depp hit her the face with an iPhone, pulled her hair and was verbally abusive during an altercation on May 21. In a sworn statement, Heard also said that Depp was verbally and physically abusive to her throughout the entirety of their relationship and provided photographic evidence to support her allegations.

Heard and Depp are expected to appear in court for another hearing on June 17, at which time, Heard’s restraining order against him will expire.
