Connie Diiamond shares visuals for “Cowabunga” [video]

By Tayo Odutola Word Is Bond

NY emcee Connie Diiamond switches up the energy with the upbeat single “Cowabunga” which gets a boost with a fresh video that captures both her lyrical style and sensual being. The title is inspired by the popular Ninja Turtle phrase which we all grew up on.

Backed by a booming sparse trap backdrop, Diiamond goes for a fun-filled style lacing hard bars with a carefree demeanor. The visuals go for what she calls the hot girl Autumn aesthetic and we wee her and her girl gang having fun with no restrictions.

“Cowabunga”  is off her latest project  Trap Elliot 2.0. Get it on Apple Music and Spotify .

It’s been 5 years since the last release from the PeteStrumentals series (peep our album review on it), and fans finally got word from the legend himself on the timeline that the 3rd edition will be released. Pete Rock’s PeteStrumentals 3 is coming out on December 11th.

According to Rolling Stone, the album will be backed entirely by a band called the Soul Brothers. The Soul Brothers, which consists of two members from the collaboration with Pharoahe Monch (dubbed channelth1rt3en – drummer Daru Jones and guitarist Marcus Machado), bassists MonoNeon (Prince, Nas) and Christian McBride (Sting), keyboardist BigYuki (A Tribe Called Quest) and vocalist Jermaine Holmes (D’Angelo).

“A lot of this album sounds like samples extracted from records. We dress it up and add definition to what it is. It’s Hip-Hop, but have you ever heard Pete Rock not sample anything or work with a band? It’s exciting. I’m a musician, whether I’m sampling or not,” Rock said. “Music is music; it’s what I think about it all day, every day,” Rock said in a statement.

The album was initially supposed to be released back in April for Record Store Day, but due to the pandemic at hand the date for RSD was moved a few times. After a few shifts in delays for the album release, Rock guarantees a date for the December 11th release on his Tru Soul Records imprint.

Here’s the first single from the album, called Say It Again. You could preorder the vinyl and check out the tracklisting here.

Beyoncé Is "Heartbroken" Over Violence Against "EndSARS" Protesters

Days after her Black is King collaborator Tiwa Savage made a public plea for her to speak out on the injustices against Nigerian citizens, Beyoncé has made a statement about the “#EndSARS” movement. Beyoncé has regularly used her platform to speak out against police brutality, inequity, and inequality, so it was expected that the music icon would lend her voice to this cause.

“I am heartbroken to see the senseless brutality taking place in Nigeria,” Beyoncé wrote in a message posted to her Instagram account. On Tuesday (October 20), numerous reports surfaced that protesters in Nigeria were being openly shot in the streets by police. Videos also surfaced showing people begging for mercy and help.

“We have been working on partnerships with youth organizations to support those protesting for change,” Bey continued. “We are collaborating with coalitions to provide emergency healthcare, food and shelter. To our Nigerian sisters and brothers, we stand with you.” In Lekki, Lagos, witnesses told reporters that they were kneeling in a surrender position when police opened fire. Check out a few social media posts about what’s going on in Nigeria below along with Beyoncé’s message.
