Queenie Lasoul is in her element when “Chillin’ In Our Ways”

By Tayo Odutola Word Is Bond

Emerging Atlanta based singer/songwriter Queenie Lasoul thrills us with her unique hip-hop infused neo-soul vibes on her new single “Chillin’ In Our Ways.”  The track is a 2 part song that sees her displaying both her singing and rapping prowess over smooth atmospheric textures.

The song is a mixed bag of emotions stemming from love and also explores the frailty of how sometimes we humans handle situations regarding the heart.  The first part of the song has a downtempo atmospheric vibe that serves as the perfect backdrop for Queenie Lasoul’s honeyed vocals. She puts her emotions on the line to a certain love interest but instead of taking the step forward, she takes her time to ponder on her feelings. The second part of the song has more of a hip-hop bounce layered with sparkling keys and warm basslines. This part, she delivers her lines with a melodic rap flow reminiscent of luminaries like Bahamadia, Queen Latifah amongst others. Both parts are seamlessly weaved into one another and present the listeners a dual view of Queenie Lasoul’s emotions and versatility behind the mic.

Vado Pens "#UsToo" Message After Video Shows Tahiry Throwing Apples At Him

The grip seen around the world has Vado explaining himself once again. Recently, a clip from an episode of Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition went viral after it showed rapper Vado getting upset with girlfriend Tahiry during a group therapy session. He’s seen jumping up and grabbing Tahiry by the front of her shirt as he yells at her. Only the show’s host, Dr. Ish, came to her rescue and pulled Vado off of Tahiry before walking him out of the room.

Vado later stated on social media that “nobody was hit” and asked for viewers to watch the entire episode to see the context of the situation. What was shown was Tahiry getting upset with Vado prior to their viral altercation and throwing two apples at him in anger. The public returned to social media to once again criticize the couple. So, Vado shared another explanation on Instagram.

“Nobody’s da victim we both were wrong doin me more because I’m a Man dat tried to take da better route but couldn’t once it was no apology n continuous of disrespect I lost it n went out like a Str8 Sucka,” he wrote in a caption. “I apologize to all women once again but ladies please keep y’all hands to y’all selves 🙏🏽 #UsToo.” Check out Vado’s post along with a few reactions below.

Tamar Braxton Refutes Claim That WeTV Cut Ties With Her: Report

It looks like Tamar Braxton is calling foul on a recent report about her relationship with WeTV. Just yesterday (July 30), Tamar Braxton shared a series of tweets as she spoke about her recent health scare after she was hospitalized for an alleged suicide attempt. She was found on the floor of a hotel bathroom unresponsive by her boyfriend, David Adefeso, and yesterday, she broke her silence and spoke out about how WeTV aided in the decline of her mental state.

Today, Variety shared an exclusive report that WeTV, the network that hosts Braxton Family Values, has decided to end their relationship with the singer. The outlet didn’t share the network’s full statement but reported that they claimed they “will work with her representatives to honor her request to end all future work for the network.” However, it doesn’t look like anyone sent Tamar Braxton the memo.

“LIES!! no one has talked to a lawyer, or to me, sent a flower or card, text to me or NAN!!!” Tamar reportedly wrote in a tweet. “THIS is the abuse and Lies I am talking about. This is not helping my mental state. They just won’t stop until they see me out of my mind or dead.” WeTV has yet to respond to this publicly.

LeBron James Locking Down Kawhi Becomes Twitter's Latest Meme

Last night, the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Los Angeles Clippers in what was easily the most anticipated part of the NBA’s return to action. Fans were curious to see how these two teams would match up against each other especially since they had both been off for the better part of four months. In the end, the Lakers came out on top as they took advantage of the Clippers’ lack of depth due to the absences of Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the game came from LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard right at the end. The Lakers were up by two with just seconds to go and Kawhi had the ball in his hands. LeBron was tasked with defending him and provided some lockdown defense that led to the Laker win. However, at one point Kawhi turned away to pass the ball and the look on his face made for a hilarious out of context photo.

As you can imagine, this image immediately went viral and led to some pretty hilarious captions on social media. While it may seem mundane to some, there is no denying that the presence of this meme is an indicator that the NBA is back in all of its glory.

At the end of the day, what is the NBA without fans taking every little thing at face value?

Oh! The Horror – “Halloween 365” (Album Review)

Oh! The Horror is a Sacramento trio from Sacramento, California consisting of frontman Jonathon Hillhouse, rhythm guitarist Jeremy Terror & lead guitarist/producer Grady Finch. They released an EP just over a year ago called The Devil Made Me Do It & were able to gain even more exposure just a few weeks ago by becoming the very 1st act under Majik Ninja Entertainment’s new sub-label Welcome to the Underground. Of course with this new record deal, the trio had to celebrate by dropping their full-length debut.

The opener “Kill ‘Em All” get murderous over an icy instrumental backed by some heavy guitars whereas the next track “Boom!” tries to incorporate elements of EDM as they talk about how they’re not hard to find. The song “Origins” tells a story about them agreeing to a deal with Satan over a prominently rubbery trap beat while the track “Scream Queen” talks about taking dude’s bitches over a straight up nu metal throwback. The song “Leave Me Alone” talks about wanting to be set free over an beat fusing an amalgamation of different styles of while the track “Pain” with KidCrusher sees the 2 talking about fading in the darkness & the instrumentation on here is some of the best on the entire album.

The song “Idontcare” talks about not giving a fuck over a minimal beat with a dope retro video game sample occasionally popping in & out while the song “Boomstick!” talks about guns over a trap metal fusion. The track “Bodies” talks about having corpses in their basement over some hellish guitars while the track “Scream” challenges anyone to stop them over a demented instrumental. The penultimate song “Zombie” talks about getting a blowjob over another trap metal beat & then the album finishes with the title track, where the trio talk about how they’re always gonna be freaks over an uncanny beat.

Pretty good album if you ask me. I was expecting a bit more out of the features & even though the whole rap metal shtick might come off as lame to some people, Oh! The Horror is definitely a more unique face in that style & I can definitely see them growing down the line.

Score: 7/10

HNHH TIDAL Wave: J. Cole, Drake, & Logic Bring The Real Back

It’s been a minute since we’ve updated the TIDAL Wave playlist — admittedly, we’ve been a little swamped. We’re back though and, hopefully, we won’t let this playlist fall off again.

There’s been so much dope new music to unpack over the last month, including releases from Logic, Gunna, Pop Smoke, and more. Much of that is available on the freshly-updated TIDAL-exclusive playlist, which showcases our staff’s favorite tracks from the last few weeks.

This time around, we’re starting off with one of J. Cole’s new songs, “Lion King On Ice,” which was pretty much unanimously added by the staff. Then, we ease into Smino’s new single with J.I.D and Kenny Beats called “Baguetti.” Then, we move into some of Logic’s new cuts, some music from Curren$y, both of DJ Khaled’s new songs with Drake, and more.

Of course, we’re also showing love to some artists that don’t get enough recognition, like Rimon, Keyuntae, and more.

Check out all of our individual picks below and make sure to let us know whose list you’re feeling the most. Take advantage of your free month at TIDAL here.

Hip-Hop Producer JW Lucas Apologizes For Victim-Blaming Breonna Taylor

This week was the first time that most people had heard of JW Lucas and, unfortunately for the hip-hop producer, it wasn’t for any achievement he had made in music.

The producer of “WHAT’S POPPIN,” Jack Harlow’s big hit, went viral this week because of his take on Breonna Taylor’s death. He went on Twitter and ruffled feathers, wondering why people are asking for justice for the young Black woman who was killed after police broke into her home and shot her as she slept.

Marcus Ingram/WireImage/Getty Images

“Why is the world asking for justice for #BreonnaTaylor…ofcourse she shouldn’t have lost her life…. but do you realize that she was involved with multiple drug dealers who were using her house as a trap spot? If you sign up for that life there are consequences,” said JW Lucas among other things on Twitter.

After receiving a ton of backlash for the comments, he has issued an apology.

“Some times pure intent can be the path to hell. One thing I’m not going let people say is that I am a racist,” he said. “I fight for Black people every day of my life, my comment was designed to ask if this case is being politicized for political propaganda purposes and I was wrong to speak on it. I will really think twice before speaking moving forward and I will atone for my mistakes. I’m sorry for the ignorant timing and tone of my tweets.”

JW Lucas says that he is apologetic and regretful of his actions. Do you accept his apology?

Antonio Brown Receives Official Suspension From The NFL

Antonio Brown’s saga in the NFL has been an interesting one that came to a screeching halt back in September of 2019 as numerous allegations surfaced. Brown was immediately released by the New England Patriots and became a part of a massive NFL investigation that spanned months. In the weeks following the start of this investigation, Brown continued to become more erratic although, after his arrest in January of 2020, he has significantly calmed down and has gotten help.

Recently, Brown demanded that the NFL finish its investigation as it was seemingly taking forever. Not to mention, numerous teams are interested in Brown although the investigation has made him unavailable. Well, today, that all changed as the NFL alerted Brown that he would receive and eight-game suspension without pay, according to Adam Schefter.

If Brown were to be signed prior to the start of the season, he would be allowed to take part in the team’s training camp, and it would be added to the roster for the ninth game of the season. While the suspension certainly hurts, this is huge news for Brown as it means he will finally able to resume his NFL career following a turbulent 2019.

Stay tuned for updates as this is a developing story.
